How much to charge? Several factors will determine the rate, including the position, your traffic and the relationship you have with advertisers in your community. We recommend starting at $50 per month for an exclusive position (a bit less for a rotating position). If an advertiser jumps on it right away, raise the price later. If it's a tough sell, lower the price or offer an introductory discount for the first month or two. You could also add this to an existing print contract — maybe a 25% discount if they also advertise in the paper. You know your community best, and you know what they'll support.
Promote your site to build site traffic. Advertisers will want to know how many people saw the ad, and they know you have access to the analytics. You could offer a discount while you are building the audience, but you should try for sitewide traffic of at least 75 page views per day and build toward 300+ per day over time.
